We went to a Luau!

Monday evening Josh and I went to a Luau at the Royal Kona Resort. It was a spectacular location and a good show. The Ima or dirt oven was dug up and everyone was invited to gather for the removal of the pig. A Hawaiian group played and sang while we were eating. There were sweet rolls, various salads, poi, sweet potatoe, rice, the pork from roasted pig, salmon, chicken and beef and other fish as well. Lots of coconut desserts and open bar. We had a great time. We had learned how to eat poi from a Hawaiian....try it on its own and it tastes a little like flavorless glue, but it is very nutritious and if you spread it on fish, pork or chicken it is very palatable.

The show began with dancers from the Islands featuring hula, Tahitian Hula, dancers from Samoa and New Zealand. I love the Haka that is performed by the Maori men and women from New Zealand. I have tried to upload the video but this blog site doesn't recognize the format. At the end a fire dancer performed! He was really good and the photo just doesn't do him justice so you will have to go see a performance yourself.

The sunsets here are probably photographed as much as anything else! Arent they beautiful?
