Cartegena Columbia

This was day 10 of the second part of my cruise from San Diego. It is hot and muggy. We arrived to CArtegena this morning and tied up at the same dock as last trip. I do not do well in those kinds of heat so opted to stay aboard. EVeryone else in family decided to go ashore to the little park at the entrance to the dock. This seems to be part of the Atlantic sides container depot. After a bit, my son came to find me and encouraged me to come ashore to see this park, so I did. Glad that I saw this. Parrots f all colours, iguanas, other types of birds, plants flowering in all their glory, black swans, flamingos and peacocks galore. This park was all free but you enter through a duty free shop! The trick is not to get caught up in the duty free shop!

Later we reboarded the ship and went to the pool and enjoyed the sun. When we went to change to bathing suits I was a little slower than the others, so when I went back up top to the pool I was walking along behind the lounge chairs and spotted Paul, laying half in shade with sunglasses on. I wondered at the time where Rae and Josh were! Anyway, I quietly tiptoed up behind his chair and as I still had my camera around my neck, I sneakily started tickling his neck and arm with the camera strap. He looks up at me and I said, where is Rae? His response...do you mean Pete???? Crap, it wasn't Paul! I think I better get in to see an optometrist! I apologized and left quickly, needless to say I avoided the pool for a time, at least til I changed clothes so he couldn't identify me!

In one of the photos you can see buses lined up to pick up the offloaded passengers. Seemed to be a never ending line! Also, a container port here as well!

LOL, hilarious...bet you got the heck out of there fast! It can be embarassing when you think it is someone you know and find out later it wasn't. The color of the birds is gorgeous!

Have you ever wondered which Island people are referring to when they say they are going to Hawaii?  Me too.  Turns out "The Big Island" is actually Hawaii, but because it is the largest in the archipelago, they (in the archipelago) are referred to as the Hawaiian Islands.  Currently my friend Val (who met me in Honolulu upon my return from Australia) and I are on the oldest island in the chain, Kauai.  It rains here more than the other islands, and is therefore known as the Garden Isle.  So green, lush and beautiful.   We are right beside the ocean in a condo for a couple weeks and the sound of the ever rolling surf, the tall waving palm tree outside our door, the sun and birds of many varieties, including the islands feral chickens and roosters.  The chickens  are a master class in introduced animals.  Thousands of feral chickens roam the island with no natural predators. Feet keep on walking more shopping to do

It is Thursday of our first week here in Kailua Kona on Big Island, Hawaii.  The plan for today was to drive out to the Queens Market at Waikaloa to find the 'Crocs' footwear store.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of the clunky looking ones that are popular today so in the clearance section I did find a pair of the 'Z' ones I like for $29.00 so I'm happy.  Even Barb found a pair of black sandals as well.   Once we left there, I drove us up to Hamakauas Macadamia Nut Company in Kawaihae.  I'd been a few times prior with other friends and family.  It has changed a bit inside but they still provided samples of all the different flavours of coatings on the nuts so you can purchase the canned flavours you like.  We liked a few!  Hey!  You can even get spam flavoured ones!! We watched a video of the process from tree to package.  The factory wasn't working inside today to watch so perhaps it's off season for macs?  At any rate we sat and ate ice ream cones,

Do we ‘have to’ leave?

Yesterday was a bit challenging. It was our last day on Big Island.  Our condo was to be vacated by 11:00, we overstayed a wee bit longer since no cleaning lady had arrived yet.  We had left it all neat and tidy, when it was time to leave we hopped in the car and made our way out to Waikaloa once again, for something to do.  Wandered around for a bit, looked at some lovely art pieces, and a bit of jewelry before getting back on the road once again to return to Costco for a hot dog before we left!   But first, we decided to follow a friends footsteps earlier in spring and find the Kona Saltery. Thank goodness for gps on the phone.  Found it easily.  A charming gal came out to greet us and tell us where to go to explore all the different salts they process!  She left us to look at them on our own for a couple of minutes promising to return.  Which she did bringing in a plate of small chopped up bits of tomatoe, cucumber and pineapple.  She explained to us who they were and how they harve
