Road trip in South Austrailia

We left Adelaide Hills around 10 this morning and drove down to the coast at Meningie. This place is memorable to me as several years ago when we came over with a motorcycle, we arrived into the port of Darwin with the bike, rode from there down through the Centre of the continent (the outback) to South Australia. For the most part it was very hot so we needed accommodation with air conditioning. We had brought a tent, sleeping bags and other assorted paraphernalia with us from home and had it tied to the back of the bike. I recall it was a total inconvenience packing all this stuff so that when we arrived late one cooler afternoon into the town of Meningie we decided to put up the tent in this cute park we found. We were the only tenters! Should have told us something....anyway, we turned in early, we had a blow up air mattress as well. After about an hour, we noticed it getting cool, then cold and in the night the air went out if the mattress and we were laying on cold frigid ground. We nearly froze that night....turns out it was the coldest night of the year!!!! It was the only time over the two months in Australia that we used the tent et. al. Consequently when we were leaving Australia, we had sold the bike and the purchasers got all the gear as well.

But, I digress, once through Meningie, we noted a grey foggy overcast, but it was still warm, we drove down along Coorong National Park which is a strip of land between the ocean and a narrow channel of Lake Alexandria and the mainland. Lunch stop was a road house at Salt Creek for a delicious sandwich and coffee, then back on the road to Kingston where we stopped to look at an old lighthouse and walked down a long pier where kids were snorkelling and swimming and people were fishing. Leaving Kingston we were back inland until we reached Robe where we are staying tonight. Lots of little knick knack and clothing shops to explore and walk around. We had a delicious meal tonight at a trendy restaurant and are now back to our motel for the night. Tomorrow we will head for Mt. Gambier, then drive up to Penola for some touristy things and carry on up to Naracoorte for our second overnight. Till then, photos to follow...

So nice that your friends are able to act as tour guides for you while you are there. Sounds like you're seeing some wonderful sights and terrain. Geez another 4 days and you'll be heading West again for Hawaiian Islands. Bet Val is so looking forward to a vacay.
